September 1 – October 15, 2006

opening: Friday, September 1, 2006

participating artists:

Paolo Inverni (*1977, Turin)
Patrizia Karda (*1973, Zurich)
Alexandra Ranner (*1967, Munich)
Thorsten Schneider (*1976, Cologne)
Max Sudhues (*1977, Antwerp)
Stefan Wischnewski (*1974, Munich)

The exhibition "Inner Spaces" opens spaces through installation, photography and video. The six invited artists approach the subjects construction and space in narrative, formal esthetic, conceptual and also psychological ways. Irony, humour and absurdity play an essential role in the realisations. The evolving works analyse the various interpretations of construction: real scaffolds support the installations. As regards the content, a construction is the mental precondition of the works. These works in turn form the basis of the mental constructions of the active observer. The various mental spaces are to be explored by the observer, the experience of different moods in the works causing the creation of individual spaces of imagination. The apparent precision of the constructed pictures and spaces is transformed into more complex visions by the observer.

Most of the artists will create site specific works for "Inner Spaces".

Thorsten Schneider

untitled from "Projekt", 2004, photographic work

Thorsten Schneider builds sculptures, but reduces them to a two-dimensional surface by means of the photography, he takes the sculptural factor back. Thorsten Schneider’s sculptures are a delusion, since they are only temporary existent, because after the photographic documentation they are again divided into their individual components.

  Patrizia Karda

Zimmer (Room), 2006

Patrizia Karda works according to the reverse principle in her artworks, which are not purely photographic, but have a touch of installation. In direct reference to the existing architecture she creates a three-dimensional projection surface. Therefore she compensates the two-dimensionality of the projected photo in favor of the experience of an illusionistic space.

  Stefan Wischnewski

Implantat, 2006, installation

Stefan Wischnewski develops a sculptural space accessible to the viewer. His work becomes a kind of architecture for experience. With ironical and critical distance he creates a transition between outside and inside, a connection between art area and everyday life.

Paolo Inverni

luci, 2006, video and sound

Paolo Inverni’s video sound work Luci demonstrates situations of everyday life in real time. Based on video photographs of illuminated windows and on recordings of the surrounding soundscape the border between interior and exterior space becomes clear, since only the outside space is acoustically perceptible. The curious view is indeed directed inward, but the chances to penetrate any foreign environment are limited.

Max Sudhues

Von Innen nach Aussen nach Innen (From the Inside to the Outside to the Inside), 2006

Max Sudhues constructs a parcours from simple things and projections, in which each partial element keeps its validity as a single image. The resulting artworks are poetic and tell little, sometimes bizarre stories. The objects seem to come alive and to expose their „true” character. By disarranging and alienation of the point of view Max Sudhues addresses to the spaces of fantasy of the viewer.

Alexandra Ranner

April, 2006, video

Alexandra Ranner allows us a peeping view onto the stage of life. Her scenic-like presentations are the environment for multilayered readable situations, since the shown often remains in mystery.
